Gateway Arch National Monument, established in 1965 on the west bank of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, commemorates the westward expansion of the United States with one of the most iconic and breathtaking works of architecture in the world. The stainless steel arch, designed by Eero Saarinen and completed in 1965, soars 630 feet above the riverfront — the tallest monument in the United States — its elegant catenary curve reflecting the sky and the river in equal measure. Beneath it, the Museum at the Gateway Arch tells the sweeping story of American exploration, migration, and the spirit of the frontier.
U.S. national parks are frequently referred to as America’s Best Idea. Other common nicknames highlighting their value include National Treasures, Jewels in the Crown and collectively as the Natural Heritage or Crown Jewels of the nation.
All "parks" are not the same, with over 25 different designations beyond just "National Park". These include National Monuments, Historic Sites, National Recreation Areas, National Lakeshores/Seashores, and National Preserves, focusing on natural preservation, historical preservation, and recreational water access. The titles included in our U.S. National ParkStamps™ Collection cover all of these designations.
