Shenandoah National Park, established in 1935 along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Virginia, stretches 105 miles through one of the most beloved and accessible wilderness landscapes in the eastern United States. Skyline Drive, the park’s celebrated 105-mile scenic road, winds along the mountain ridge offering sweeping views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west and the Virginia Piedmont to the east — particularly breathtaking during the park’s legendary autumn foliage season. White-tailed deer graze in the meadows at dusk, black bears roam the oak forests, and more than 500 miles of trails invite hikers of every level into the Blue Ridge wilderness.
U.S. national parks are frequently referred to as America’s Best Idea. Other common nicknames highlighting their value include National Treasures, Jewels in the Crown and collectively as the Natural Heritage or Crown Jewels of the nation.
All "parks" are not the same, with over 25 different designations beyond just "National Park". These include National Monuments, Historic Sites, National Recreation Areas, National Lakeshores/Seashores, and National Preserves, focusing on natural preservation, historical preservation, and recreational water access. The titles included in our U.S. National ParkStamps™ Collection cover all of these designations.
