Northern Flicker

$10.00
SKU: 50012

The Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) is the state bird of Alabama and one of the few woodpeckers in North America that regularly forages on the ground, feeding primarily on ants and beetles. Found across the continent from Alaska to Central America, it is partially migratory, with northern populations moving south in autumn. Two distinct forms exist — the yellow-shafted in the East and the red-shafted in the West — which interbreed extensively where their ranges overlap on the Great Plains.
