There are apparently 120 to 200 estimated Anemone varieties, and South Dakota chose the Pasque flower, also commonly known as Prairie Crocus, Wind Flower, Easter Flower and Meadow Anemone. Color range spans deep lavender, purple, and violet to light blue, pink, red, and white. The most commonly recognized colors for the South Dakota state flower - the American Pasque Flower - are vibrant purple, lavender or light violet.
