New River Gorge National Park, established in 2020 as America’s newest national park in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, protects one of the oldest rivers in the world flowing through one of the deepest gorges in the eastern United States. The New River Gorge Bridge, soaring 876 feet above the river and stretching 3,030 feet across the canyon, was the world’s longest steel arch bridge for 26 years after its completion in 1977. World-class whitewater rapids, extraordinary rock climbing, and dense hardwood forests rich with wildlife make this rugged gorge a celebrated destination for outdoor adventure.
