The National Park of American Samoa, established in 1988, is the only American national park south of the equator, spread across three islands — Tutuila, Ofu, and Taʻu — in the heart of the South Pacific. Ancient rainforests tumble down volcanic peaks to meet coral reefs of extraordinary richness, sheltering flying foxes, tropical seabirds, and some of the most pristine marine ecosystems on earth. Samoan culture, among the oldest in Polynesia, is woven into every aspect of this remarkable place, where villages, traditions, and the land itself have remained largely unchanged for three thousand years.
U.S. national parks are frequently referred to as America’s Best Idea. Other common nicknames highlighting their value include National Treasures, Jewels in the Crown and collectively as the Natural Heritage or Crown Jewels of the nation.
All "parks" are not the same, with over 25 different designations beyond just "National Park". These include National Monuments, Historic Sites, National Recreation Areas, National Lakeshores/Seashores, and National Preserves, focusing on natural preservation, historical preservation, and recreational water access. The titles included in our U.S. National ParkStamps™ Collection cover all of these designations.
