The Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) ranges across eastern North America from southern Canada to Nicaragua, favoring open fields and woodland edges with available nest cavities. It is the state bird of Missouri and New York, and has benefited significantly from nest box programs that helped reverse population declines caused by habitat loss and competition from introduced species. Males display vivid blue upperparts and a warm russet breast, making them one of the most recognized songbirds in the East.
