The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is found year-round across most of eastern and central North America, from southern Canada to the Gulf Coast. It is the official provincial bird of Prince Edward Island — Canada's smallest province — and one of the most recognized birds on the continent. Partially migratory, some populations move south in large flocks each autumn while others remain resident. It plays an important ecological role as an acorn disperser, contributing to oak forest regeneration.
