Canyonlands National Park, established in 1964 in the red rock heart of southeastern Utah, is the state’s largest national park — a vast and ancient landscape where the Colorado and Green Rivers have carved a labyrinth of canyons, mesas, and buttes across 337,598 acres of raw, elemental wilderness. Divided into four distinct districts — Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Maze, and the rivers themselves — Canyonlands offers some of the most remote and challenging terrain in the American West. From the rim of Island in the Sky, the view stretches a hundred miles in every direction, a panorama of geologic time laid bare.
U.S. national parks are frequently referred to as America’s Best Idea. Other common nicknames highlighting their value include National Treasures, Jewels in the Crown and collectively as the Natural Heritage or Crown Jewels of the nation.
All "parks" are not the same, with over 25 different designations beyond just "National Park". These include National Monuments, Historic Sites, National Recreation Areas, National Lakeshores/Seashores, and National Preserves, focusing on natural preservation, historical preservation, and recreational water access. The titles included in our U.S. National ParkStamps™ Collection cover all of these designations.
