The Green Congo (Papilio bromius) is a swallowtail native to the rainforests of central and west Africa. Its wings carry iridescent green scales against deep black, shifting subtly with the angle of light. It shares its range with some of the highest butterfly diversity on the continent — the Congo Basin is home to more than 1,000 recorded butterfly species, making it one of the richest lepidopteran regions in the world.
