Lake Clark National Park, established in 1980 on the western shore of Cook Inlet across from Anchorage, is one of Alaska’s most diverse and spectacular wilderness areas — a place where three mountain ranges converge, two active volcanoes dominate the skyline, and wild rivers cascade from glaciated peaks into a coastline rich with marine life. Accessible only by small aircraft, Lake Clark receives fewer visitors than almost any other national park, rewarding those who make the journey with brown bear viewing, world-class sport fishing for sockeye salmon, and a profound sense of wilderness solitude found in few places remaining on earth.
