The Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides) is the state bird of Idaho and Nevada, ranging across the open mountain meadows and high-elevation grasslands of western North America. The male is one of the most uniformly blue birds on the continent, lacking the russet breast of its Eastern and Western relatives. Partially migratory, it moves to lower elevations and southward in winter, sometimes forming large flocks. It nests in tree cavities and readily accepts nest boxes placed in appropriate habitat.
