The National Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial, dedicated on October 14, 2020, honors the more than 700,000 American service members who served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991 — the coalition campaign that liberated Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. Located near the Vietnam War Memorial and Constitution Avenue, the memorial features a dramatic curved granite wall, bronze relief sculptures depicting the air, land, and sea campaign, and a central flame representing the enduring sacrifice of those who served. It is among the newest memorials on the National Mall.
