The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, dedicated on November 13, 1982, is one of the most visited and emotionally powerful monuments in Washington D.C. Designed by Maya Lin, then a 21-year-old Yale architecture student, the memorial consists of two polished black granite walls inscribed with the names of 58,281 Americans who died or remain missing from the Vietnam War. Visitors often leave flowers, photographs, and mementos at the wall's base, and the reflective surface returns their own image alongside the names — creating a profound and deeply personal connection between the living and the fallen.
