Western Tanager

$10.00
SKU: 51005

The Western Tanager (Piranga ludoviciana) breeds in coniferous forests from Alaska and the Yukon south through the Rocky Mountains to Baja California, and winters from Mexico to Costa Rica. The male's yellow body, black wings, and red head make it one of the more colorful breeding birds in western North America. Despite its tropical appearance, the red pigment in its plumage is not produced by the bird itself — it is obtained through diet, from insects that feed on plants containing rhodoxanthin.

This series is designed to create beautiful hangings for yourself or as gifts. Finished size individually as 20" x 20" wall hangings, or you can create an entire 64" x 80" quilt with any 12.
