Some Days, Still Becoming Feels Like Standing Still

Today did not go the way I planned.

I tried to learn something new, became completely frustrated, and finally had to walk away. Later, I fell off my bike and damaged it. My hip and hand hurt, my patience is gone, and tonight I learned that someone I love is entering hospice.

It was one of those days that makes you want to crawl under the covers and stop trying.

I have been thinking a lot about the words Still Becoming. Usually, they feel hopeful to me. They remind me that we can keep learning, changing, creating, and growing at any age.

But tonight, they feel different.

Maybe still becoming does not always look like progress. Maybe some days it looks like disappointment, grief, frustration, and exhaustion. Maybe it means allowing ourselves to stop, rest, cry, and begin again when we are ready.

I did not conquer anything today.

I did not master a new skill.

I did not turn the day around.

I simply made it through.

And maybe, for today, that is enough.

Still becoming does not mean never feeling defeated.

It means defeat is not the end of the story.

sorry to be so sad… but I’m being real.
