Bryce Canyon National Park, established in 1928 on the high plateaus of southern Utah, is not a canyon at all but a series of natural amphitheaters carved into the edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau, filled with thousands of flame-colored hoodoos — tall, thin spires of rock sculpted by frost, rain, and time into shapes of haunting and fantastical beauty. At elevations above 9,000 feet, the park offers some of the clearest air and darkest skies in the continental United States, and on winter mornings, fresh snow draped over the red and orange spires creates a scene of almost impossible magic.

U.S. national parks are frequently referred to as America’s Best Idea. Other common nicknames highlighting their value include National Treasures, Jewels in the Crown and collectively as the Natural Heritage or Crown Jewels of the nation.

All "parks" are not the same, with over 25 different designations beyond just "National Park". These include National Monuments, Historic Sites, National Recreation Areas, National Lakeshores/Seashores, and National Preserves, focusing on natural preservation, historical preservation, and recreational water access. The titles included in our U.S. National ParkStamps™ Collection cover all of these designations.
