Dinosaur National Monument, established in 1915 on the border of Utah and Colorado, protects one of the most significant paleontological sites in the world — a massive sandstone cliff face embedded with the fossilized bones of more than 1,500 dinosaurs from the late Jurassic period, including Allosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Diplodocus. The Quarry Exhibit Hall allows visitors to view the bones exactly where they were found, still locked in the rock. Beyond the fossils, the monument encompasses dramatic canyon country carved by the Green and Yampa Rivers, offering some of the finest whitewater rafting in the American West.
U.S. national parks are frequently referred to as America’s Best Idea. Other common nicknames highlighting their value include National Treasures, Jewels in the Crown and collectively as the Natural Heritage or Crown Jewels of the nation.
All "parks" are not the same, with over 25 different designations beyond just "National Park". These include National Monuments, Historic Sites, National Recreation Areas, National Lakeshores/Seashores, and National Preserves, focusing on natural preservation, historical preservation, and recreational water access. The titles included in our U.S. National ParkStamps™ Collection cover all of these designations.
